In the final Canadian professional event before the 2025 National Bank Open, New Westminster-native Alexandra Vagramov won the women’s doubles title at Les Championnats Banque Nationale de Granby alongside Darja Vidmanova of Czechia.

The duo of Vagramov and Vidmanova defeated the all-Canadian team of Cadence Brace and Scarlett Nicholson in the first round before taking down the No. 3 seeds Haley Giavara and Alexandra Osbourne in straight sets in the quarter-final.

After a three-set win in the semis, the eventual champions beat the all-Japanese duo of Saki Imamura and Wakana Sonobe 7-6(5), 6-3 to hoist the trophy. The Granby title win was Vagramov’s first-career ITF triumph.

Canadians Ariana Arseneault and Mia Kupres came in as the No. 1 seeds and defending champions but were ousted in the quarter-final.

On the singles side, Kayla Cross clinched the Road to the NBO wildcard despite a first-round exit.

Brace came within one win of overtaking Cross for first in the Road to the NBO standings and securing a wildcard spot in Montreal.

A finals appearance would have been enough for the 20-year-old after Cross was stunned in the first round by Imamura. Unfortunately for Brace, the Torontonian lost in the semifinal to No. 1 seed Talia Gibson, who went on to beat American qualifier Fiona Crawley for her third W75 title.

Draxl falls short in seventh ATP Challenger final of the year

In search of his second straight title, Liam Draxl fell short in the Granby final, losing in straight sets to Dane August Holmgren.

The Newmarket-native defeated fellow Canuck Alexis Galarneau – the only other Canadian to reach the quarter-final – in three sets in the last eight before beating Belgian Alexander Blockx in a rematch of the Winnipeg final to reach the title matchoat an ATP Challenger event for a tour-leading seventh time in 2025.

However, Draxl lost 6-3, 6-3 to Holmgren in the final for his sixth runner-up finish of the year.

The 23-year-old was also the only Canadian to make it out of the first round in the doubles draw alongside American Tyler Zink, but the No. 2 seeds withdrew prior to their following match.
