Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and partner Erin Routliffe won their second US Open title in three years on Friday. The No. 3 seeds defeated top seeds Katerina Siniakova of Czechia and Taylor Townsend of the United States in the final on Friday in straight sets..
Dabrowski was looking to claim her second women’s doubles Grand Slam title, having previously won the 2023 US Open with Routliffe. That win was the first women’s doubles major win by a Canadian. The victory on Friday was Dabrowski’s fourth Grand Slam title overall, having also won the 2017 French Open and 2018 Australian Open in mixed doubles.
Friday’s final was a rematch of the 2024 Wimbledon ladies doubles final, won by Siniakova and Townsend 7-6(5), 7-6(1). The Canadian-Kiwi duo did avenge that loss in November, defeating the Czech and American in the final of the WTA Finals. Dabrowski and Routliffe defeated Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva 7-6(9), 6-3 in the 2023 US Open final.
Here is how the final played out:
0-0
Erin Routliffe serving and the final is underway.
2-2
Each woman gets a routine hold in their first service game. Dabrowski herself had a hold to love.
4-2 Dabrowski/Routliffe
Dabrowski and Routliffe can't seem to miss while Siniakova puts one in the net for 30-40 on her own serve for the first break point of the day. A great return from Dabrowski sets up Routliffe for a putaway volley at the net to seize the advantage.
5-2 Dabrowski/Routliffe
Dabrowski misses a backhand volley to go down 30-40 on her own serve but carves a tight slice backhand to save the break point. She misses another volley to go 40-AD down but Routliffe swats away Siniakova's return. The Canadian/Kiwi duo survive the game and consolidate the break.
5-4 Dabrowski/Routliffe
Despite fighting back from love-40 down, a forehand miss from Routliffe gives the top seeds a fourth chance and Townsend fires a forehand winner to put the set back on serve.
FIRST SET DABROWSKI/ROUTLIFFE 6-4
The third seeds bounce back brilliantly, going up love-40, triple set point, on Siniakova's serve and Townsend sends a volley long to drop the opener.
6-4, 2-0 Dabrowski/Routliffe
Townsend drives back-to-back high balls into the net to gift Dabrowski and Routliffe an early break.
6-4, 3-2 Dabrowski/Routliffe
A couple of nice returns from Siniakova and Townsend give them a pair of break points and Dabrowski double faults to put the set back on serve.
6-4, 4-4
Dabrowski had a chance to break to set her team up to serve for the title but overcooked a backhand swinging volley. Siniakova holds to stay level.
