The turnaround from the Sunshine Double to the clay is a quick one. Just a day after the last champions lifted their trophies in Miami, attention has already shifted to the dirt, with five events in four countries on the ATP and WTA calendars this week.

And the Canadians are right in the thick of it. Here’s what you need to know.

In Case You Missed It: Mboko, Dabrowski Stay Consistent in Miami

So far in 2026, only three women have reached the quarter-finals or better in singles at at least three of the four WTA 1000 events played: Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula.... and Victoria Mboko.

Some strong week-one performances at the Miami Open saw the Canadian teen into the last eight of yet another WTA 1000 event, but her run came to an end at the hands of a familiar foe. In a match similar to the Doha final last month, Mboko was edged out by Karolina Muchova in two tight sets.

Gabriela Dabrowski also found herself in the late stages of a big event in 2026, reaching the semifinals in Miami with Luisa Stefani. The pair beat Sofia Kenin and Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets in the quarter-finals to reach their fourth semifinal of the season, but were beaten in a third-set tiebreak by the eventual champions Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend.

So far in 2026, Dabrowski and Stefani have reached the quarter-finals or better at all five events they have played.

What to Watch: Hit the Clay Sliding

The first week of the clay season is going to be a busy one with five Canadians in action across the various tournaments.

Charleston has the most Canadian content, with both Leylah Annie Fernandez and Bianca Andreescu competing at the WTA 500 event. Fernandez is the ninth seed and will kick off her campaign against either Polina Kudermetova or Oleksandra Oliynykova after a first-round bye. Her draw gets tricky from there, with No. 7 seed Diana Shnaider in her path in the third round, potentially followed by top seed Jessica Pegula in the quarter-finals.

Fernandez is also competing in doubles with Kristina Mladenovic. They play Anna Bondar and Magdalena Frech in the first round, with second seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Alexandra Panova potentially waiting in round two.

Andreescu will kick off her clay season against Dalma Galfi. A win would set up a round-two clash with fellow former Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin. If she knocks off the No. 16 seed, the Canadian’s reward could be a clash with fourth seed Iva Jovic in the third round.

On the men’s side, Gabriel Diallo leads the way as the top seed at the ATP 250 event in Bucharest, Romania. After a bye, he will contest his first clay-court match of the season against either a qualifier or Matteo Arnaldi. His first projected seeded opponent is No. 7 Mariano Navone in the quarter-finals. He is joined in the top half of the draw by No. 3 seed Fabian Maroszan, a potential semifinal opponent.

Cleeve Harper is also in action in Bucharest, competing in doubles with David Stevenson. The top-ranked Canadian doubles player and his British partner will have their hands full in round one, as they meet fourth seeds Constantin Franzen and Robin Haase.

Liam Draxl rounds out the Canadian contingent this week, having come through qualifying to reach the main draw of the 250 event in Houston. His qualifying run was dramatic, as he won both his matches in third-set tiebreaks, including his second-round qualifying match against countryman Alexis Galarneau.

In the main draw, he will try to score his first singles win at an ATP Tour event against Nishesh Basavareddy. If he manages it, his reward would be a clash with third seed Learner Tien in the second round. Fifth seed Brandon Nakashima would then likely be waiting in the quarter-finals.

Under the Radar:

It was a quiet week for Canada on the ATP Challenger, WTA 125, and ITF Tours, with no Canadians reaching finals.

On the home front, things were a bit busier with the Fischer Indoor Junior Nationals taking place. The U16 and U12 events wrapped up over the last few days, while this week the U18s and U14s are in action in Toronto and Vancouver.
