Victoria Mboko and Félix Auger-Aliassime the last Canadians in singles, Mboko and Gabriela Dabrowski both reaching week two in doubles. No, this isn’t the mid-Indian Wells Monday Digest again. History just repeated in Miami.
After a tough few days weather-wise, the Miami Open is getting back on track and several Canadians are still in the fray in the second leg of the Sunshine Double.
Here’s what you need to know.
In Case You Missed It: Mboko Returns in Miami in Style
A year ago, Victoria Mboko scored her first WTA Tour match win at the Miami Open. This year, she reached round four as the No. 9 player in the world. What a difference a year makes.
Mboko cruised through her first two matches, not dropping a set in wins over Anna Blinkova and Anastasia Zakharova. In fact, she lost a total of eight games in those two matches on her way to the fourth round.
There, she found herself up against fellow teen sensation Mirra Andreeva for the third time in 2026. Mboko kept rolling, taking the lead in their head-to-head and reaching her third WTA 1000 quarter-final of the year with a three-set win.
The 19-year-old also caused an upset in doubles alongside Andreeva as the teens took down eighth seeds Ellen Perez and Demi Schuurs in the first round.
Félix Auger-Aliassime only fit one match in during the rainy opening week in Miami, but scored a hard-fought win over the powerful Marton Fucsovics in straight sets to reach round three. However, a deep run in Miami continues to elude the Montrealer as he was stunned on Monday in the third round by Terence Atmane. Auger-Aliassime has not made it past the third round of this event since his main-draw debut in 2019.
Like Indian Wells earlier this month, Auger-Aliassime and Mboko were there only Canadian singles players to make it to Monday at the extended 1000 event.
Leylah Annie Fernandez also reached round three, beating Oksana Selekhmeteva in three sets in her second-round match after a first-round bye before falling to fifth seed Jessica Pegula. Gabriel Diallo picked up a match win as well, beating Yibing Wu in the first round in straight sets before falling to 31st seed Ugo Humbert in round two.
Liam Draxl qualified for the main draw of an ATP Tour event for the second time in 2026 in Miami and took the first set against Quentin Halys in their first-round clash before the Frenchman fought back to take it in three sets. Denis Shapovalov also bowed out in round one to Botic van de Zandschulp.
Gabriela Dabrowski is the only other Canadian left in Miami. She and Luisa Stefani easily defeated Linda Noskova and Diana Shnaider in their first-round doubles match on Sunday.
Fernandez was also entered in doubles, reuniting with the great Venus Williams, but the pair lost an epic first-round match 13-11 in the match tiebreak to sixth seeds Asia Muhammad and Erin Routliffe.

What to Watch: Doha Rematch for Mboko
Another familiar face, and a shot at revenge, awaits Victoria Mboko in the quarter-finals of Miami. The Canadian will have a rematch of last month’s Doha final with Karolina Muchova, which was won by the Czech, in the last eight.
If Mboko gets her revenge, potential semifinal opponents including No. 4 Coco Gauff, No. 6 Amanda Anisimova, and No. 12 Belinda Bencic.
On the doubles side, the draw is opening up for Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani, as there is only one other seeded team left in their half of the draw, No. 2 Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend, who would be their semifinal opponents.

The Canadian/Brazilian duo got a free pass to the quarters on Monday when Ekaterina Alexandrova and Fanny Stollar withdrew ahead of their second-round matchup. Their quarter-final opponents will be either Sofia Kenin and Liudmilda Samsonova or Ingrid Neel and Aldila Sutjiadi.
The teen team of Mboko and Mirra Andreeva take on Storm Hunter and Jessica Pegula in round two, with fourth seeds Elise Mertens and Shuai Zhang potentially waiting in the quarter-finals. They are in the top half of the draw with No. 1 seeds Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini.
Under the Radar: Close Call for Cross
Kayla Cross had a shot at her first singles title of the year over the weekend but was bested in the final of the ITF W50 event in Chihuahua, Mexico. The 21-year-old dropped just one set on her way to the final, in the semis where she beat No. 2 seed Julia Riera, but was edged out in the title match by Julieta Pareja in two tight sets.
The London, ON-native was the only Canadian to reach a final last week on the professional tours.
Junior nationals got underway over the weekend, with the U16 and U12 Fischer Indoor Junior Nationals beginning in Verdun and Calgary. CLICK HERE for the event preview.
