This week is mainly about Team Canada, even if it’s in a subtle way.
Quebec City is playing host to Canada’s Davis Cup Qualifiers Second Round tie against France, as the men look to qualify for the Final 8 after missing out a year ago. But down in South America, a few Canadian women may be getting familiar with their potential Billie Jean King Cup opposition.
Here’s what you need to know.
In Case You Missed it: Dabrowski’s Semifinal Set
Gabriela Dabrowski’s bid for a third US Open title in four years came up short last week in New York. She and partner Luisa Stefani were beaten in the women’s doubles semifinals by the tandem of Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery 10-8 in the match tiebreak.
Just by reaching the semifinals, Dabrowski and Stefani accomplished an impressive feat of reaching the semifinals at all four majors in 2026.

What to Watch: Davis Cup Returns to Quebec City
Team Canada presented by IGA are looking to punch their ticket to the Davis Cup Final 8 this week when they host Team France at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City. Canada will head into the best-of-five tie led by Félix Auger-Aliassime. The world no. 5 is joined by Liam Draxl, Duncan Chan, and Keegan Rice.
Matches will take place on Friday and Saturday.

On the WTA Tour, a pair of Canucks are making the trip down to Brazil a couple of months before the Billie Jean King Cup squad does the same.
Gabriela Dabrowski and partner Luisa Stefani are the top seeds at the WTA 250 event and will take on the all-Brazilian team of Rebecca Pereira and Marjorie Souza in the first round. They are projected to meet the third seeds, Ekaterina Ovcharenko and Laura Pigossi, in the semifinals.

Cadence Brace is the lone Canadian in the singles draw. She got in through qualifying, winning both of her matches in straight sets. In the main draw, she will take on third seed Solana Sierra in the first round.
Leylah Annie Fernandez was originally the top seed in Sao Paulo but withdrew at the last minute.
Bianca Andreescu competed at the WTA 500 event in Guadalajara but lost in first round to Cristina Busca.
Under the Radar: Trio of Canadian Winners
Canada had a few titles to celebrate on the World Tennis tours last week.
In Toronto at Sobeys Stadium, Shawn Courchesne cruised to the title at the Birmingham Wheelchair Tennis Classic, Canada‘s biggest wheelchair tennis event on the World Tennis Tour, in the quad division. He lost a mere four games in his four matches, dishing out as many bagels.

Courchesne is up to four titles in 2026, matching his 2025 haul. At the WC100 level, the Birmingham title matches his career-best result.
Over in Evora, Portugal, Ariana Arseneault and Raphaelle Lacasse were victorious in the doubles draw of the W50 event. The pair only dropped one set on their way to the final, that being the opening frame of their thrilling semifinal victory which they snuck out 13-11 in the match tiebreak. In the final, the Canadians beat Katarina Kuzmova and Elena Micic 6-3, 6-4.
It is the third doubles title of the year for Arseneault and second for Lacasse. Both of Lacasse’s victories came alongside Arseneault.
Sasha Vagramov nearly joined the title stampede, reaching the doubles final of the W15 in Monastir, Tunisia, but was edged out 10-8 in the match tiebreak.
