Tennis Canada will host the Davis Cup Qualifiers 2nd Round tie between Team Canada presented by IGA and France at the Centre Vidéotron in Quebec City from September 18-19, 2026. The winner of the tie will advance to the Davis Cup Finals, set to take place in November 2026 in Bologna, Italy.

FÉLIX AUGER-ALIASSIME CONFIRMS HIS PRESENCE FOR THE TIE

Born and raised in Quebec City, Félix Auger-Aliassime – currently ranked No. 5 in the world – has already confirmed his participation in the event. He will have the opportunity to play a professional match in the region where he grew up for the first time in his career, a moment that promises to be particularly meaningful for him.

“I’m truly excited that Canada’s next Davis Cup tie will be played in Québec City this coming September,” said Félix Auger-Aliassime. “It will be the first time I have the opportunity to represent my country in my hometown, and it will definitely be a very special moment for me. I grew up and was initiated to tennis here, and I consider it a tremendous honour to now compete in front of my family and the fans from here. I already know the crowd’s energy is going to be incredible, and I’ll give everything I have on court to help our team earn the victory.”

“We are delighted to return to Québec City next September for our Davis Cup tie against France,” said Frank Dancevic, captain of Team Canada. “It will be the first time since the 1970s that our team has had the chance to play in Québec City, and we are already very excited to experience the atmosphere that a sold-out Centre Vidéotron can create. Québec fans are known for their passion and energy, and we know they will be behind us throughout the weekend. It will obviously be a particularly special moment for Félix, who will have the opportunity to represent Canada in his hometown, in front of his family and supporters. We will arrive ready and motivated, with one objective in mind: to secure the victory and qualify Canada for the Davis Cup Finals.”

During the last Davis Cup tie held in Québec City, from October 4 to 6, 1974, at the Pavillon de la jeunesse – where the Centre Vidéotron now stands – Canada fell 4-1 to Mexico. At the time, Team Canada featured Réjean Genois, Anthony Bardlsey, Pierre Lamarche, and Donald McCormick (who secured Canada’s only win).

Currently ranked No. 12 in the world, Canada will face a tough opponent in France, ranked No. 6. The French team also boasts significant depth in its player pool, including Arthur Fils (No. 19), Arthur Rinderknech (No. 24), Corentin Moutet (No. 32), and Ugo Humbert (No. 34), all of whom have competed in at least one Davis Cup tie since 2025.

The last meeting between the two countries dates back to March 4, 2016, when France swept Canada 5–0 on clay in Guadeloupe. Notably, Canada’s current captain, Frank Dancevic, was part of the Canadian lineup at the time and played in two matches.

Team Canada advanced to the Davis Cup Qualifiers 2nd Round thanks to a 3-2 victory at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver. Newmarket’s Liam Draxl played the hero, winning the decisive match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. With the win, Draxl not only secured the tie for Canada but also maintained his perfect record of three singles victories in Davis Cup play.
