There’s no place like home to win your first singles title of the year.
A month after claiming his first doubles crown of 2026, Thomas Venos was a champion in singles for the first time this year over the weekend. And his victory not only came on home soil, but in his home province.
Here is the monthly wheelchair tennis update.
Venos reigned supreme at the 2026 Kamloops Legacy Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in British Columbia, securing the men’s singles title without dropping a set. The Anmore, BC, native was the top seed and showed why, beating countryman Barry Henderson, American Tomas Majetic, and second-seeded Aussie Ben Weekes on his way to the title.
“Very happy to win my first singles title of the year. Also getting my first win over a top veteran player,” said Venos after beating Weekes 7-6(6), 6-1 for the title. “I had a game plan coming into the match and I stuck with it the whole match and it worked to perfection. This was my best match of the weekend in terms of my play, so happy to finish on a high note.”

It was Venos’s ninth World Tennis (formerly ITF) singles title and 26th title overall.
Venos nearly doubled up in Kamloops, reaching the doubles final alongside Henderson. However, Weekes and Majetic came out on top, edging out the Canucks 10-7 in a match tiebreak to deny the hosts of a sweep in British Columbia.
The other Canadian winner in Kamloops was Mitch McIntyre, who won the quad event. It was a three-player round robin, with McIntyre beating fellow Canadians Lachlan Sandford and Hisham Mohammad to finish atop the group.
