Not at all, Community Tennis Leagues are open for everyone! Leagues will consist of different divisions (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and you can register in the division that you feel best matches your skill level.

Yes, you can register in as many Leagues as you like! 

A session lasts for 4-5 weeks and is the timeframe for you to play your matches within your group. We aim to run 3-4 sessions a year in each League.

Unfortunately, players will not be able to register for a session once the entry deadline has passed but we encourage you to register for the next month's session!

For Singles Leagues: In BC, the entry fee is $21+tax per session. Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and New Brunswick, the entry fee is $20+tax per session. In Quebec, the entry fee is $21.75+tax per session. In Manitoba, Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland and Labrador, the entry fee is $15+tax per session. In Northwest Territories, there is no entry fee. 

For Doubles Leagues: In BC,  the entry fee per session is $21+tax per pair. In Alberta, the entry fee per session is $20+tax per pair. In Nova Scotia, the entry fee per session is $15+tax per pair.

The entry fee covers prizes, access to the online match play tool, customer service and other administration costs. Please note that the entry fee does not cover the cost of courts. Please find a list of free public courts here.

When entering a doubles league, only one player in the pair will have to submit an entry and pay the entry fee on behalf of the team. When submitting your entry, you will be asked to search for and select your partner with their name or member ID. Both players must have a valid membership with their Provincial/Territorial Tennis Association before signing up – this can be the free recreational membership. Players must sign-up for doubles leagues as a team, Community Tennis Leagues will not match individual players with a partner.

You should play between 3 and 5 matches depending on your group size and how many people join. The number of matches may vary further if players withdraw from the league or are unresponsive.

Leagues will consist of different divisions that you can sign up for based on your self reported level: beginner (ready for my first match), intermediate (I have match play experience and can rally consistently), and advanced (I have a reliable, solid game built over years of match play).

You may join more than one division, however, we recommend not joining both a beginner and advanced division.

Within your division, you will be placed within a group of 3-5 players who you will play your matches against during the session.

At first groups will be organized based on players' self reported level (beginner, intermediate, advanced). Your Community Tennis Leagues results will contribute to your ITF World Tennis Number (WTN) so once you play some matches, a WTN will be generated for you. The more matches you play, the more accurate it'll be. As more players receive a WTN, we will use each player's WTN to organize the groups for every session.

It’s a global rating system that allows tennis players to find the right playing partner or program. It is a scale between 40 and 1, with 40 being a beginner player and 1 being an elite professional. This scale is for all players, regardless of age, gender, or skill level. It will make it easier for everyone who plays tennis in Canada to organize and play against opponents of a similar skill level. See our WTN page for more information.

Once you join a session with an allocated partner, and a session has started, no substitutions are permitted. Before the session starts, if your partner can no longer play due to injury or any other reason but you'd still like to play, you will need to withdraw and then sign up again along with your new partner. You will then be added back into the appropriate group. Don't forget to email us about withdrawing your initial pairing. Once a session has started, you will no longer be able to change your partner and Community Tennis Leagues does not offer any refunds. 

Once a session has started, we cannot change your group placement. We have placed you in the best possible group according to your self reported level and your ITF World Tennis Number (if available). The League divisions and groups change every session dependent on who signs up.

Depending on the location, Community Tennis Leagues offers different league types (ex. Mixed/Gendered Singles/Doubles), and accepts a wide variety of scoring formats (ex. Regular 3 tie-break sets, Best of 3 short sets, One Pro-set, and Fast4).

We will work on placing you in a group with players of similar skill level after the deadline closes. The day the session starts, we will send an email with all the information you need, including where to find the contact details for players in your group.

Once the session begins, you can also find your group members by visiting your division page on the national-provincial match play platform. From there, click on the players names in your group to get their contact information.

You can then start contacting your group members to set up matches when and where you like!

Players can add a note in their profile to specify their preferred playing availability and locations. This will be visible to your group members only, alongside the contact information. We encourage you to use this function to help facilitate scheduling matches with other players in your group. Please click here for further details on adding/viewing notes. 

We recommend being proactive and contacting your opponents as soon as matches are generated. Be courteous when contacting other players – call or text between 9 AM and 9 PM, or feel free to send an email at any time.  

If you haven’t received a response from a player, we recommend: (1) Contact people individually with your general availability or with specific dates/times you're available to play (2) If you initially reached out using only one of the contact methods (email / text / call), try another method. (3) Contact Community Tennis Leagues (leagues@tenniscanada.com)

This is up to you! Matches are arranged between opponents at a mutually agreed time and place. Matches just need to be completed before the session end date. Please feel free to set up your matches on public tennis courts, club courts (if your club permits guest members) or nearby indoor tennis centres with public access.

You and your opponent will agree on who books the court, if required. However, we encourage you to use free public courts in your area, and if there is a court fee we encourage you to share the cost. You can find a local tennis court through the Tennis Canada court finder application here.

All CTL matches are self-umpired and should be conducted in the spirit of fair play. In all matches, coaching is not allowed. Communications of any kind, audible or visible, between a player and a coach shall be construed as coaching.

CTL players are welcome to have spectators attend the matches, however, they strictly may not interfere with matchplay. Spectators are never to provide coaching, make calls, or be enlisted to help resolve a dispute. During matches, there should be no communication between players and spectators whatsoever. Spectators should maintain a sufficient distance from the court to prevent unnecessary interference.

Following the match, it is the winner's responsibility to enter the score online. We encourage both players to verify the score before the winner inputs the score. To enter scores online (1) Visit the national-provincial match play platform and log in (2) Scroll down to the "My Box ladders" section and select your division (3) Enter your scores under the "My upcoming matches" section.

To make an adjustment to a score, please email leagues@tenniscanada.com. Scores cannot be added or modified after the session has ended so please ensure to record and review your scores shortly after completing your matches.

Players in the standings are ordered by points. Points are awarded as follows: 3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, 1 point for a loss, 3 points for a walkover win, 0 points for a walkover loss. If two players are tied based on points, the tie is determined by Head-to-Head, followed by Set-Percentage.

If you can no longer participate in a session, you may withdraw yourself. To withdraw yourself from a session, click on “Manage Entry” on the top right-hand corner of the league page, then click on the red 'Withdraw' button for the session you'd like to withdraw from. Once a session has started, Community Tennis Leagues does not offer any refunds.

If the agreed time simply runs out for a match, we encourage you to complete it at a later date. A winner must be specified in the system if match results are inputted.

If a player has attempted to schedule a match twice and has received no response, the player can claim a walkover and receive 3 points.

If a player does not turn up at the agreed time, or is more than half an hour late, the other player can claim a walkover and receive 3 points or the match can be rescheduled.

If a player has withdrawn from your group, you will be notified and any unplayed matches against that player can be set as a walkover.

You are free to play against other players as many times as you like, however, only the score for the first match played between two players can can be reported for the league.

Scores cannot be entered for any matches played after the end date of the session so don't delay in arranging them with your group. Certain exceptions can be made, please email leagues@tenniscanada.com with any requests.

We will email you if you have won any prizes within the week.

For every match you complete, you will get entered into a draw for a chance to win a grand prize at the end of each session. Depending on which province you are participating in, you are eligible to receive different prizes. Prizes will be announced to registered players at the start of each session.

Prize winners will be emailed instructions for how to receive their prize.

The grand prize draw will be conducted based on the matches recorded in the system as of the final day of the session. Winners will have their name published on the website and will be asked to share a photo of themselves.

As this is a public league, your name and league results will be published online on the national-provincial match play platform. Player profile data and match results recorded on the platform will be shared with the ITF in order for you to receive a WTN and for the results to count towards your rating. Players can opt out of this service at any point by adjusting the consent under your account settings.

By playing in the League you are authorizing us to share your contact details (email and phone number) with other members of the League.

Once logged in on the national-provincial match play platform, click on your name in the top right-hand corner and select Account Settings. Here you will be able to edit your account information/details.

If you have forgotten your username or password, follow the instructions on the national-provincial match play platform login page to reset your credentials.
