Thomas Venos and Shawn Courchesne doubled-up at the Birmingham National Wheelchair Tennis Championships, each earning a pair of national titles at the UBC Tennis Centre in Vancouver, BC.
Venos of British Columbia, the five-time defending champion, added another singles title to his growing resume. The Anmore-native dropped just three games in as many matches, defeating fellow British Columbian Barry Henderson 6-1, 6-1 in the championship match.
The singles finalists teamed up to take the doubles crown in their home province. It was smooth sailing for Venos and Henderson who conceded two games en route to defending their title.
As for the quad division, a new champion was crowned as Shawn Courchesne of Ontario went undefeated, dropping a combined two games in three matches, including a dominant win over three-time defending champion Mitch McIntyre of British Columbia.

On the women’s side, Anne-Marie Dolinar of Ontario hoisted the trophy, overcoming Natalia Lanucha of Quebec 6-3, 6-4 to finish at the top of the singles group. The two players have a long history at the Birmingham Nationals, having split their last six meetings with three wins apiece. Dolinar had lost her last two matches to Lanucha at the event before this year, when she managed to get her revenge.
