While the final grand slam event of the season is contested in New York, there are two significant junior tournaments being held in Quebec this week: the Repentigny National Bank Junior Tennis Championships and the U14  Fischer Outdoor National Championships in Laval.

Some of the best junior players in the world are getting their final U.S. Open preparations taken care of in Repentigny at the always popular J300 ITF event. In the boys’ singles draw, world no. 9 Iliyan Radulov of Bulgaria (no. 1), Austrian Joel Schwaerzler (no. 2), and Italy’s Federico Cina (no. 3) are the top 3 seeds. Meanwhile, Canadians Mikael Arseneault, Matthias Uwe Kask, and Junghee You have all advanced to the second round.

Mingge Xu of Great Britain, ranked no. 24 in the world, finds herself at the top of the girls’ singles draw as the no. 1 seed, Emerson Jones of Australia is seeded second, and Japan’s Hayu Kinoshita is seeded third. The up-and-coming Canadian contingent is led by Naomi Xu, who made her junior Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open in January, Scarlett Nicholson, Raphaelle Leroux, and Nadia Lagaev.

The Repentigny tournament, which is celebrating its 36th anniversary in 2023, has welcomed some of tennis’ biggest names to Parc Larochelle over the years including Andy Murray, Milos Raonic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, Bianca Andreescu, Eugenie Bouchard, Iga Swiatek, and Barbora Krejcikova.

Outdoor Nationals Wrap Up in Laval
