Team Canada’s juniors faced some tough tests in their Billie Jean King Cup and Davis Cup Junior Finals groups in Santiago, Chile. The Canadians were held winless across each of their three round-robin ties, finishing at the bottom of their respective group in their quest for qualification into the knockout stages.

Canada’s Billie Jean King Cup Juniors team came out of each tie with at least one win in their three matches. The girls lost to eventual group winners France in their opening tie, with Andrea Cabio and Laurence Demers rallying from a set down to take their doubles match.

Needing a win over Great Britain to keep their knockout stage hopes alive, Lily Rochon fell short in singles, but Cabio levelled with a straight-set win to leave it up to the doubles match to settle the tie. Unfortunately for the Canadians, Cabio and Demers were unable to secure the victory.

The duo was able to end the round robin on a high note, beating the Australians in doubles in Canada’s 2-1 loss.

The Canuck’s Davis Cup Juniors side got off to a valiant start. In their opening tie against Czechia, Caden Colburne outlasted his opponent to take his singles match in three sets, but Joshua Adamson was defeated in two tiebreaks. The two teamed up for the decisive doubles match and were just shy of getting Canada off to a 1-0 start.

Canada’s hopes came down to scoring a win over Spain on the dirt. Antoine Généreux went the distance in singles but lost in the end as the Canadians were eventually eliminated from knockout stage contention with a 3-0 loss.

Généreux cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win in Canada’s final tie against Chinese Taipei. However, the Canucks were beaten in three sets in their next two matches to conclude group play.
