The Université Laval-McGill rivalry defined the Quebec University Championships at the end of March, with each school taking home a winner’s trophy. The Rouge et Or of Laval successfully defended their title on the women’s side, while the McGill Redbirds reigned supreme among the men.
Here is the monthly university tennis update.
Both the men’s and women’s finals pitted Laval and McGill against each other, which came as little surprise considering they finished as the top two teams in the regular season in both divisions.
The McGill Redbirds cruised to the men’s title, dropping just a single point in two matchups. As the top team in the regular season, they had a first-round bye before sweeping Concordia 4-0 in the semifinals.

In the final against Laval, the Redbirds were nearly as dominant, delivering a 4-1 victory to secure the men’s title. Singles wins for Emile Labrunie and Alec Barin combined with tight doubles wins from the pairs of Barin and Loic Petrecca and Xavier Mareschal-Hay and Quin Pon clinched the title for McGill. Oussama Bouayad scored the lone point for the Rouge et Or in singles.

The roles were reversed in the women’s draw, where the top-seeded Rouge et Or powered their way to another title. After a bye, they cruised past Concordia in the semis 5-1 before taking down McGill 4-2 in the final.
Janic Durocher, Joliane Côté, and Lisa Seiler all scored singles and doubles wins in the final, with Durocher and Seiler teaming up while Côté partnered with Stéphania Gilbert. Samila Jarrah and Nya McWhirter claimed singles wins for McGill in the final.
NCAA – Former National Champions Climbing the Doubles Rankings
South of the border, a group of Canadians are working their way up the NCAA rankings, particularly in the doubles divisions.
Former national doubles champion Melodie Collard is back in the Top 10 after a hot start to the year. Collard has been rock solid for the University of Virginia in 2026, going 18-7 alongside Vivian Yang. The pair, who have climbed up to No. 9 in the women’s DI doubles rankings, have played every match this year in the No. 1 spot for their school.
Mia Kupres, who played a critical role in Texas A&M’s national team title back in 2024, is on the brink of joining Collard in the Top 10, currently sitting at No. 11.
