The countdown is on for the first set of Canada’s wheelchair tennis competitions as the National Event Calander for the early half of 2026 was released on Wednesday.
Here’s the first monthly wheelchair update of the year.
Ontario will host the opening two domestic wheelchair tennis events, beginning in Markham for the Premier Racquet Club Wheelchair Classic from April 18-20. The home nation was held out of the winner’s circle in last year’s edition with Thomas Venos finishing as runner-up in men’s singles and doubles.

Play then shifts south for the Windsor Classic from April 22-24. Venos is the reigning champion in both men’s singles and doubles, while Shawn Courchesne was the quad singles titlist last season.
The next domestic events will be held in British Columbia in July. The Kamloops Legacy Wheelchair Tennis Tournament is first up from the 10th-12th, before the Vancouver International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament from the 15th-17th. Mitch McIntyre is the only Canadian defending champion in either competition, winning the quad singles title in Vancouver.
Courchesne Nearly Doubles Up in Bolton
After leading the Canadian wheelchair tennis field with four ITF trophies last year, Courchesne was close to two titles in his first event of 2026 at the Bolton Indoor WT 100 Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in Great Britain.

The Bramptonian reached the quad singles final as the No. 4 seed, losing to top seed Benjamin Wenzel of Australia.
However, the two teamed in doubles and secured the title without conceding a set in their two matches. The triumph was Courchesne’s first piece of ITF doubles silverware.
