The first of Canada’s fall professional events ended with a pair of Canadian champions.

Raphaelle Lacasse and Alexandra Vagramov didn’t drop a set en route to winning the doubles title at the W35 Quebec City National Bank Challenger. This was both players’ second ITF doubles triumph of the year in La Belle Province – Lacasse won the W15 Montreal, while Vagramov secured the title in Granby.

The all-Canadian duo didn’t lose more than three games in a set on their path to the final, with their toughest test coming in a 6-3, 6-3 first-round win against countrywomen Andrea Cabio and Laurence Demers.

In the final, the No. 4 seeds Lacasse and Vagramov battled Japanese sisters Haruna Arakawa and Natsuho Arakawa. The Canadians cruised to the title, taking the championship match 6-3, 6-2.

Lacasse came close to competing for the singles crown in Quebec City as well.

The Montrealer upset No. 6 seed Carolina Kuhl in straight sets in the opening round before winning a tight three-setter over Clara Vlasselaer to reach the quarter-final.

Lacasse then beat fellow Canadian Teah Chavez, who had stunned No. 3 seed Arakawa in the second round, to set up a semifinal clash against British No. 7 seed Victoria Allen. The Canuck’s run ended there as Allen comfortably took the match 6-1, 6-1.

Allen met Dutch No. 5 seed Jasmijn Gimbrere in the final, which the Brit won  in straight sets 7-6(3), 6-2.
