Canada's women are leaving it all on the court down the stretch in 2026.

Since the end of the US Open, at least one Canadian woman has been in a final every single week. Even though the winner's trophy proved elusive this past weekend, the streak still continued with a gritty performance from the nation's No. 1 singles player.

Here's what you need to know.

In Case You Missed It: Another Final for Fernandez

Throughout her career, Leylah Annie Fernandez has regularly delivered strong results during the Asian Swing and 2026 has been no exception. The Lavalloise reached her second final in four events last week at the WTA 500 event in Ningbo, China.

Fernandez chose to play Ningbo rather than defend her title at the WTA 250 in Osaka, but the gamble paid off. It was hardly easy, as the Lavalloise needed three sets in her first three matches, grinding past Elise Mertens, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and Ekaterina Alexandrova. In the semis, she beat Marie Bouzkova in straight sets.

World No. 1 Elena Rybakina proved too much in the final, though, denying the Canadian of a second title this fall in straight sets.

The Lavalloise also competed in doubles in Ningbo alongside Marta Kostyuk. The pair won their opening match over Ekaterine Gorgodze and Yulia Putintseva but had to withdraw prior to their quarter-final with top seeds Cristina Busca and Nicole Melichar-Martinez after Kostyuk suffered an injury in singles.

What to Watch: Revenge in Fernandez's Sights, Shapovalov Returns

Leylah Annie Fernandez may not have to wait long to get another crack at Elena Rybakina as the pair are on a collision course this week at the WTA 500 event in Tokyo. They could have a rematch of their Ningbo final this week in the quarter-finals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open.

To get there, the Canadian will first need to defeat Himeno Sakatsume in round one. Then, she will have to upset Elise Mertens for the second week in a row in round two. Fernandez stunned the Belgian last week in the first round of Ningbo. A repeat performance could set up another clash with the world No. 1 in the final eight.

In doubles in Tokyo, Fernandez will have her hands full in the first round with a compatriot. The Lavalloise is teaming up with Spain's Cristina Busca and the pair drew the red-hot top seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani in round one.

Dabrowski and Stefani return to action after going back-to-back at the WTA 1000 events in Beijing and Wuhan. They have won 13 straight matches, with their last loss coming at the US Open, and have won the last three events they have entered.

On the ATP side, Denis Shapovalov returns to action this week after an injury suffered in Tokyo forced him to miss the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai. He is competing at the ATP 500 in Basel.

Shapovalov will open against local qualifier Remy Bertola and could play No. 6 seed Taylor Fritz in the second round. The Canadian's projected quarter-final opponent is second seed Arthur Fils.

Under the Radar:

Canada had another sniff at a title last week on the Women's World Tennis Tour at a W50 event in Austin, Texas, where Sasha Vagramov reached the doubles final. She and American partner Ashley Lahey did not drop a set on their way to the title match but were beaten in the final in straight sets by fourth seeds Kylie Collins and Ella McDonald.

Saguenay, QC, played host to the World Tennis Tour last week with the women in town for the W75 Challenger Banque Nationale de Saguenay. The hosts were shut out of the finals, with Ariana Arseneault coming the closest with a semifinal run in singles.

The World Tennis swing through Canada continues this week with the Tevlin Challenger at Sobeys Stadium in Toronto. There is a large contingent of Canadians competing, including Billie Jean King Cup team members Arseneault and Kayla Cross. Fans are welcome to attend and admission is free.

Four of the five men named to Canada's Davis Cup team are also in action this week. Along with Denis Shapovalov in Basel, Gabriel Diallo continues his comeback from injury at the ATP Challenger event in Brest, France. Liam Draxl and Duncan Chan are both competing at a Challenger in Sioux Falls, SD, along with compatriots Justin Boulais and Alexis Galarneau.
