For the third year in a row, Team Canada will be competing on home soil in the Davis Cup Qualifiers First Round, but this time, they will be on the West Coast. Vancouver will host this week’s tie between Canada and Brazil to see who will advance to the Qualifiers Second Round in September.
Here’s what you need to know.
What to Watch: Team Canada Returns to the West Coast
After back-to-back years playing a February Davis Cup tie in Montreal, it is Vancouver’s turn to welcome Team Canada for this week’s qualifying tie against Brazil.
Gabriel Diallo, Liam Draxl, Alexis Galarneau, Nicolas Arseneault, and Cleeve Harper will be suiting up for Canada at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. Frank Dancevic returns once again as the captain. CLICK HERE to get to know Team Canada.

Félix Auger-Aliassime will be in Montpellier this week, looking to defend his title at the Open Occitanie. The world No. 8 is the top seed and has a first-round bye. He will meet either Hamad Medjedovic or Stan Wawrinka in his opening match. He is in the same quarter as No. 6 seed Arthur Fils and same half as No. 4 Tallon Griekspoor.
Another potential semifinal opponent is No. 8 seed Aleksandar Kovacevic, who Auger-Aliassime edged out in the 2025 Montpellier final.
Over in Abu Dhabi, Leylah Annie Fernandez got off to a brilliant start at the WTA 500 event, dropping just three games in her first-round match against Chloe Paquet. The sixth-seeded Canadian plays McCartney Kessler next, with No. 3 seed Clara Tauson her projected quarter-final opponent. She is in the top half of the draw with top seed and defending champion Belinda Bencic.
Fernandez is also playing doubles in Abu Dhabi with Kristina Mladenovic. They play Alexandra Eala and Janice Tjen, who beat Fernandez in singles at the Australian Open, in the first round.
In Case You Missed It: Shaw Says Goodbye, Another Semi for Dabrowski
Once again, the best Canadian results at the Australian Open came courtesy of Gabriela Dabrowski and Rob Shaw, both of whom reached the semifinals in Melbourne in their respective doubles disciplines.
For Shaw, it was his final appearance on the wheelchair tennis tour, having announced just prior to the Australian Open that he would retire after the tournament. His quad singles career came to an end with a first-round loss to second seed Sam Schroder, but he scored one final victory in his career in his opening doubles match with Ymanitu Silva.
The pair were beaten in the semifinals by top seeds and eventual champions Guy Sasson and Niels Vink, closing the curtain on Shaw’s career.
Dabrowski reached the semifinals of the women’s doubles in Melbourne for the third year in a row. She finally solved Jelena Ostapenko, who had ousted the Ottawan in the semis the previous two years, in the quarter-finals but still could not clear the semifinal hurdle. Dabrowski and partner Luisa Stefani were beaten in the final four by Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic.
Nadia Lagaev delivered a career-best result in the Australian Open girls draw, reaching the third round of a junior Grand Slam for the first time. She was beaten in the third round by No. 3 seed and eventual champion Ksenia Efremova. Lagaev lost in the second round of the girls doubles.

Under the Radar: Andreescu Scores Second Title in Three Weeks
After having gone over six years without a professional singles title before her victory in Bradenton last month, Bianca Andreescu had to wait just two weeks to lift another trophy on the ITF Tour.
The former US Open winner was a champion again on Sunday, claiming the W75 crown in Vero Beach, Florida. Andreescu did not drop a set on her way to the title, capping off the title run with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Xiaodi You.
With the win, the Mississaugan jumps 66 spots in the WTA rankings, back into the Top 200 at No. 162.
Kayla Cross was a big winner on the ITF Tour as well last week, scoring the W100 doubles crown in San Diego, California, alongside American partner Alana Smith. It is the first W100 title of Cross’ career, making it her second-biggest win after her WTA 125 title in Tampico, Mexico, last October.

The second-seeded Canadian-American duo dominated the field in San Diego, never losing more than three games in a set and ultimately dropping a mere eight games in the entire tournament. They did receive a walkover in the semifinals but finished off the title run with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Catherine Harrison and Dalayna Hewitt.
Alexis Galarneau will be bringing good form into Vancouver for the Davis Cup, fresh off his first ATP Challenger semifinal of the season in Oeiras, Portgual. The Lavallois took down fourth seed Jaime Faria in straight sets in the quarter-finals before bowing out against the eventual champion Chris Rodesch in the final four.
At an ITF M15 event in Huamantla, Mexico, Canada’s Benjamin Thomas George went on an impressive run, knocking off the No. 8 and No. 3 seeds in the singles draw on his way to the semifinals. There, he was beaten by Gage Brymer.
