Alexander Blockx 2022 Repentigny Champion

The 35th edition of the National Bank Canadian Junior Open Championships wrapped up on Saturday in Repentigny, Quebec and the only Grade 1 ITF event in Canada crowned some new, deserving winners.

On the boys’ side, Alexander Blockx of Belgium went home with both the singles and doubles titles. Not to mention that he defeated his doubles partner, Romanian Mihai Alexandru Coman 7-6(1), 6-2 in the singles final. Seeded sixth in the tournament and ranked no. 43 on the ITF junior rankings, Blockz did not drop a set en route to his first trophy of the season.

In doubles, Blockx and Coman beat the Canadian team of Aleksandar Mitric and Sasha Rozin 6-4, 6-2 in the championship match.

Meanwhile, the girls’ singles titles went to Germany’s Ella Seidel thanks to a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Sara Saito of Japan in the final. Seidel, the no. 50 ranked junior in the world, topped Canadian Mia Kupres in the semifinals on her way to her third singles title of the year on the ITF Junior Circuit.

The doubles crown was won by Angella Okutoyi and Malwina Rowinska following a 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 triumph over Seidel and Amelia Waligora.

Both Blockx and Seidel will be competing in the U.S. Open junior event beginning this weekend.
