The first Canadian ITF Junior events on the 2026 calendar took place over the last month and the locals, especially the boys, came to play. Four events were contested on Canadian soil since the last Junior Update and Canada’s boys accounted for all four singles titles and three of the four doubles titles.

Here is the monthly junior tennis update presented by Har-Tru.

In singles, Felix Roussel was the top Canadian performer, reigning victorious at the first two events in Woodbridge and Kingston. At the J200 in Woodbridge, the first Canadian ITF Junior event of the season, Roussel took out three seeds, including No. 1 seed Jack Secord of the USA in the quarter-finals, on his way to the title.

Two weeks later in Kingston, Roussel was the top seed himself and claimed another trophy, beating the third and second seeds, his compatriots Quincy Yao and Dani Szabo, back-to-back in the semis and final.

The victories were the fourth and fifth ITF Junior singles titles for Roussel, with the J200 win in Woodbridge being the biggest title of his junior career.

While Roussel won the most singles titles during this run of events, Szabo was the most consistent Canuck, reaching the final at three of the four. After losing in the quarter-finals of Woodbridge, he reached the title match in the next three events and lifted the trophy in Quebec City with a win over Yao. He nearly went back-to-back with another title in Ile des Soeurs, but lost in a third-set tiebreak in the final to fellow Canadian Randy Manoela Rakotonavahy.

The Canadian boys, especially Andy Tchinda Kepche, were nearly as dominant in doubles over the last month.

Americans Ford McCollum and Jack Secord took the first title in Woodbridge but from there, it was all Canada. Caden Colbune and Tchinda Kepche went back-to-back in the doubles with titles in Kingston and Quebec City before Tchinda Kepche made it three titles in three weeks, winning Ile des Soeurs with Antoine Clavel.

Tchinda Kepche is up to five doubles titles in 2026, with four of those victories coming alongside Colburne.

Canada’s girls may not have swept the disciplines on home soil at these events the way their male counterparts did, but they still delivered strong performances. Three of the four singles titles went to Canadians, including Canada’s top junior Nadia Lagaev cruising to her third straight Woodbridge title without dropping a set, and they picked up a doubles win in Quebec City courtesy of Emy Gauvin and Annika Lavoie.

There was Canadian representation in every girls’ final, singles and doubles, at the four events.

Canada Advances to Junior Team Finals

In mid-April, Canada’s U14 and U16 teams completed another successful qualifying campaign at the North, Central America, and Caribbean qualifying round of the ITF World Junior Team Competitions at IGA Stadium in Montreal. All four Canadian teams finished second in their respective groups, good enough to qualify for the Finals later in the year.

Rankings Update

Roussel’s wins on home soil helped him climb up to a new career-high ranking of No. 70 in the ITF Junior rankings. He is currently the No. 3 Canadian boy. Azar is on top among the Canadian boys at No. 51, with Xavier Massotte 10 spots behind at No. 51.

Lagaev is the top Canadian overall at No. 39 in the girls’ rankings. She is the only Canadian girl in the Top 100.
