Erin Boynton takes the stage this week at the Steve Stevens Senior National Championships as the No. 1 seed in the Women’s Singles 60 event. Boynton has a current ranking of No. 13 in the ITF Singles 60+ rankings, with a career high of No. 5. She has also represented Canada on a number of World Cup teams and has an incredible 26 titles on the ITF circuit, on both clay and hard courts. Her most recent title was the ITF Credit Valley Centennial Cup in Mississauga, Ontario earlier this month.

In addition to Erin’s success on the court, she is also a highly accomplished physician in Toronto, Ontario. As part of her career path, Boynton has worked as a team physician alongside many of Toronto’s professional sports teams in the top leagues within the country. This includes the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Argonauts, and the Toronto Blue Jays, within the NHL, MBL and the CFL, leaving her outstanding mark as the first woman to work within these leagues as a team physician. She has also worked with the National Bank Open presented by Rogers as the tournament’s medical physician, earning the highest honour, the Irving Glick Award of Excellence. The award honours and recognizes those who have made an outstanding contribution and sports medicine excellence as part of the WTA tournament physician.

This week at the Steve Stevens Senior National Championships, Boynton is currently in the quarter-final round of the tournament. As the top seed, she received a bye in the first round to move onto round two where she defeated Alexandra Truscott of Alberta in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). In the quarter-final round on Wednesday, August 24 she was once again victorious only dropping a set to Kelly Stobbe (6-1, 6-0) in an all-Ontario battle for a spot in the semi-finals. On Friday the No. 1 seed will take on the No. 3 seed Michelle Karis of Nova Scotia who is also yet to drop a set on her run. Erin will look to claim her fourth Steve Stevens Senior National title of her career.

The Steve Stevens Senior National Championships is a series of senior events for age categories 35 to 85 held in Vancouver, Canada, at a number of different clubs around the city. The event will host the best of each age category from across Canada.
