Kayla Cross headlines the Canadian contingent at the ITF W75 Saguenay National Bank Challenger, with main-draw play already underway.

The London-native comes in as the No. 1 seed in the singles draw, opening the tournament against last week’s Quebec City finalist Jasmijn Gimbrere of the Netherlands. Cross is one of two Canucks in the top half of the draw along with wildcard Raphaelle Lacasse. The countrywomen could meet in the quarter-final.

In the bottom half, Canadian junior No. 1 Nadia Lagaev is off to a winning start, beating Belgian Clara Vlasselaer in her opening match. If Canadian qualifier Avery Alexander can upset No. 2 seed Viktoria Hruncakova, the 15-year-old from Sudbury will meet Lagaev in round two.

Alexandra Vagramov and Teah Chavez round out the Canadians in singles. The two will face off in the second round after opening-match wins.

In doubles, Cross is the highest-seeded Canadian, entering as the No. 3 seed alongside Slovak Hruncakova. With a first-round victory, the duo meets Canuck Francoise Abanda and American Sachia Vickery in their next match.

Fresh off a title together in Quebec City, Lacasse and Vagramov could be second-round opponents in Saguenay. The latter, teaming with Canadian NCAA star Melodie Collard, is already through to the second round thanks to a straight-sets win.

The duo is projected to play No. 4 seeds Lacasse and Ariana Arseneault, who are taking on Lagaev and American Maya Iyengar.
