On Thursday, Tennis Canada confirmed that Canadian Vasek Pospisil will take part in the 2022 Calgary National Bank Challenger at the OSTEN & VICTOR Alberta Tennis Centre from November 6-13.

Pospisil joins 2014 US Open singles finalist and former World No. 4 Kei Nishikori of Japan and 2013 Wimbledon singles finalist and former World No. 12 Sabine Lisicki of Germany, after their participation in the event was confirmed in recent weeks. The Canadian is a Grand Slam doubles champion having won the 2014 Wimbledon doubles title alongside the United States’ Jack Sock.

Currently ranked No. 122 in singles on the ATP Tour, Pospisil’s career high ranking came at No. 25 in January 2014. The 32-year-old has reached three ATP finals – 2014 in Washington and 2020 in Sofia and Montpellier. More recently, Pospisil reached the final of the Challenger Mouilleron-le-Captif in France and the quarter-finals of the Tel Aviv Open, where he lost to 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic.

Also a regular for Team Canada presented by Sobeys, Pospisil has been selected for 26 Davis Cup ties in his career. He played an instrumental role in Canada’s run to the final in 2019 in Madrid, Spain and was part of the squad which secured qualification for this year’s Finals in Malaga, Spain (November 22-27).

“I’m extremely excited to be coming back to Calgary for the National Bank Challenger,” Pospisil said. “Danny and his team have done an incredible job bringing top tier tennis to Calgary and creating a world class event for the spectators and players. I will try to keep building on my recent momentum and end the year strong as I head into the 2023 season. It will be a great challenge as this event always attracts strong talent from around the world.”

“We are thrilled to have Vasek Pospisil return for the second time at Calgary National Bank Challenger,” says Danny Da Costa, Tournament Director of the Challenger. “It’s a testament to the event we are running to attract world-class players like Vasek, Nishikori and Lisicki to our event, and we hope to continue to make the Calgary National Bank Challenger a must attend event for both the players and our fans in Calgary.”

Following the second successful event in 2020 which sold over 8,600 tickets, organizers have since added a Women’s ITF Pro Circuit event for the 2022 tournament, making the Calgary National Bank Challenger the only combined Indoor Professional Event in Canada. The tournament will feature some of the best up-and-coming and established ATP and WTA players in the world.

The full player list announcement for the 2022 Calgary National Bank Challenger will be made on Monday, October 24 at The CORE Shopping Centre in Calgary, Alberta.
