Team Canada Scores Silver

The U14 World Junior Tennis Finals took place earlier in August in Prostejov, Czechia, with the Canadian girls scoring some hardware.

Canada’s U14 girls team delivered their best-ever result in the history of the competition, winning the silver medal. The squad consisting of Isabella Ruyu Yan, Tessa Puente, and Milagros Helena Pastuszka, won their first five ties to guarantee themselves a medal by reaching the final. They lost to the United States 2-1 in the championship clash. The previous best result for the Canadian girls in the competition was a bronze medal.

The U14 boys team finished ninth.

ITF Results

Canada did host one ITF event in early July before junior nationals took over the calendar. That was a J100 in Vancouver, BC, where Enoch Lin and Brayden Woo were the lone Canadians to hoist a trophy, winning the boys doubles. Seeded third, they did not drop a set on their way to the title, including a straight-set win over the top seeds in the semis.

No Canadian reached the singles semifinals in Vancouver. In the girls doubles, two all-Canadian teams reached the semis but both were defeated.
